Seven Signs Your Car Needs Professional Detailing

Working to a calendar is a reasonable default, but the car itself is a better guide. These are the seven signs that washing has stopped being enough, and what each one actually points at.

One: The Paint Feels Rough After Washing

Wash the car, let it dry, then run a clean hand over the bonnet. It should feel like glass. If it feels gritty, that is contamination bonded into the paint, and no amount of washing removes it.

This needs decontamination as part of a full detail. It is also the most common reason a clean car still looks flat.

Two: Water Sheets Instead Of Beading

On protected paint, water pulls into tight beads and rolls off. When it starts running flat across the panel in sheets, the protection has either worn off or the surface is contaminated enough to mask it.

Either way, the paint is now bare to the weather and needs protecting again.

Three: It Looks Hazy In Sunlight

If your car looks fine on an overcast day and dull in direct sun, that is swirl marks in the clear coat scattering light. Washing will not touch it and neither will wax.

That is a paint correction job, and it is usually the biggest visual change available on an older car.

Four: Marks That Used To Wash Off Now Need Scrubbing

Bug residue, bird droppings and traffic film all release easily from a protected surface. When you find yourself working at them, the surface has lost its slickness and dirt is keying into the paint again.

Five: The Interior Smells After A Vacuum

A smell that survives a clean is coming from something worked into the fabric, carpet or air conditioning rather than sitting on the surface. It needs extraction rather than wiping.

Six: The Windscreen Hazes Up Inside

Interior plastics off gas in heat, and in a Brisbane car that film builds on the inside of the windscreen faster than most people expect. You notice it driving into low sun, and it is a genuine safety issue as much as an appearance one.

Seven: You Have Stopped Enjoying Looking At It

Less measurable and surprisingly reliable. Cars degrade gradually enough that owners stop noticing, and the moment you catch yourself avoiding looking at it in the driveway, it has drifted further than you realised.

What Each One Needs

• Rough paint or sheeting water: a full detail with decontamination and protection.
• Haze in sunlight: paint correction, then protection.
• Interior smells or hazy glass: a deep interior clean rather than a vacuum.
• All of the above at once: a full reset, then a maintenance cycle so it does not get back here.
